The Chicago Antique Market, which drew rave reviews in its first season last year, is yet another reason to visit the Windy City this summer.
Crowds of treasure-hunting locals and out-of-towners swarm to the once-monthly, European-style market, making its 2005 debut Sunday on the last block of Randolph Street, between Ada and Ogden) in Chicago's trendy West Loop market district.
More than 200 stalls will overflow with antiques, collectibles, vintage clothing, toys, folk art, posters, jewelry, glassware and other items at the indoor-outdoor bazaar that was ranked among the top three national urban antique markets by Travel & Leisure magazine.
Sunday's event also will feature an emerging designer Fashion Market showcasing feathered chokers and edgy crochet designs by two top young Chicago designers, twins Monika and Erika Simmons.
Held the last Sunday of each month through October, the seasonal market will set up shop 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 26, July 31, Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Oct. 30 in addition to Sunday's May Market.
Admission is $8 per person, free for children younger than age 12. Look for free parking on nearby streets or at Plumbers Hall. A free trolley will depart from the Tribune Tower on North Michigan Avenue every hour from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with return trips from the market every half hour beginning at 9:30 a.m.
A limited number of Chicago Antique Market rooms are offered at the Palmer House Hilton, (877) 865-5321 ; check www.877chicago.com or call (877) CHICAGO for hotel packages, including the Lenox Suites Hotel.
